The Show 3

Freddy was anxious about tonight. This was the night of all nights, and hopefully the best night.

The cab she rode in struggled to get through the city’s traffic, as neon colors fought for dominance over the streets. The arena was coming up on the left, just a couple of blocks away. A crowd had gathered outside it, spilling into the streets at times, adding to the already congested traffic.

This was the least of her concerns. Tonight, she was going to do it. After all the time they spent together at the dorm, laying in bed watching TV, talking about relationships, walking the campus arm in arm, she knew, just knew, that Tracee felt for her the same way she did.

For it was time to come out. To profess her love for Tracee, to tell her she’s the only one for her. Whether she would accept her declaration was up to her, that’s why she needed Maurice there.

He was always there for her, always the supportive friend, ever since high school. It was sheer luck that they went to the the same college. And she needed him, because no one else in town would accept her lifestyle. And he didn’t make a show of it, or even questioned it. And she would need his support if things went bad with Tracee. He was the one person she knew she could lean on.

The cab pulled up to where they were waiting. Good thing she got Maurice to buy that third ticket. She payed the dare and climbed out, still nervous about the evening. She stopped short of them, because they were both looking at her kind of weird. All she could think to say was, “What?”
