Good News!

I moved, to a better location. No longer am I in the backwoods, I now live amongst the people of the world. I’ve returned to civilization, and in doing so, I feel much better.

But that’s not the good news.

I’ve discovered, just down the street from me, is a book store! Imagine my surprise and utter joy when almost walked past it. Sitting right there, innocuously sitting in a tucked in lot. I stared in wonder, thanking the gods for this providence. It felt like the right time to weep, but as I was out in public I didn’t want to come across as some weirdo.

But then I began to worry. On the far left side were posters and artwork for graphic novels, manga and other super hero type comic books. Please I thought, don’t be a comic book store! If it were I would really weep, regardless of what people would think. Filled with dread, I walked in, hoping for the best, expecting the worse.

The first thing I saw were the operators of the establishment. They were in a booth/office of sorts. One of them, an elderly woman, was staring intently at a TV monitor on her left. The other, some kid (at my age, they’re all kids), sitting in a chair reading a comic book. I looked around the rather close store and immediately to my right was a shelf full of books. In front of that was a shelf full of Chibi dolls of different characters. I asked the kid if this was a real book store and in a voice like Mike Tyson’s, only softer, he said it was. Then he said some other things that I couldn’t make out. All I could do was nod my head and move on t.

And they did not disappoint. Two steps in and I found another rack full of books. And another and another. In the back was a walk-in closet space that had more books. On the other side of the room was another walk-in closet space full of books. I walked out of there with three books! I didn’t expect that, and yet it happened.

So that’s the good news. I feel blessed. When I was a kid I was an avid reader. I got turned off from reading when a friend recommended a fantasy series that should have come to it’s big protagonist attack after the third book, but didn’t. It did create a need for buying more of the series, the only way to know how it ends. It actually filled me with frustration and made me give up reading for a long time. I’m glad I came back to it, and that book store is definitely going to help with that.

So happy birthday to me!
